Therapy for burnout in London and online across the UK

What is Burnout?

Burnout is not simply stress. It can feel like emotional exhaustion, numbness, resentment, difficulty concentrating, and the sense that you have been carrying too much for too long. You may still be functioning on the outside while feeling depleted, disconnected or close to collapse underneath.

Therapy can offer a steady space to understand what has led to this point, what your burnout is asking of you, and how to begin relating to yourself with more honesty, care and limits.

You might recognise this

Burnout can show up as:

  • Constant exhaustion, even after rest.

  • Feeling detached, flat or emotionally shut down.

  • Irritability, resentment or a much shorter fuse.

  • Struggling to concentrate, remember things or make decisions.

  • Pushing through while feeling disconnected from what you are doing.

  • A sense of failure or self-criticism for “not coping better”.

  • Difficulty knowing what you need, or feeling guilty for needing anything at all.

  • Physical strain such as tension, headaches, sleep disruption or flare-ups in pain.

Burnout is often not just about workload. It can be tied to people-pleasing, over-responsibility, relational patterns, chronic stress, caregiving, identity pressures, perfectionism or living too long without enough support.

What therapy for burnout can help with

Therapy can help you:

  • Understand the emotional and relational patterns that keep burnout going.

  • Notice where you have been overriding your own limits.

  • Work with guilt, shame or fear around slowing down.

  • Rebuild connection with your needs, feelings and values.

  • Strengthen boundaries without losing your care for others.

  • Recover a sense of steadiness, meaning and self-trust.

Burnout is not a sign that you have failed. Often, it is the cost of surviving for too long in ways that have asked too much of you.

How I work

I am an integrative transpersonal psychotherapist offering therapy that is relational, trauma-informed and body-aware. This means we do not only focus on coping strategies at the surface. We look at what has shaped your patterns, how stress is held in your body, and what needs to change for something more sustainable to become possible.

In practice, this may include:

  • exploring the pressures and expectations you live under,

  • understanding your attachment and relational patterns,

  • noticing how burnout shows up in your nervous system and body,

  • working with inner parts linked to responsibility, fear, shame or over-functioning,

  • and developing steadier ways of pacing, grounding and responding to yourself.

What sessions are like

Sessions are a consistent weekly space where you do not have to keep performing competence while feeling depleted underneath. We work at a pace that is manageable, thoughtful and honest.

Many people experiencing burnout are used to minimising what they feel. Therapy offers a place to stop pushing through for a moment and begin listening more carefully to what your exhaustion may be telling you.

I offer sessions online across the UK and in person in Paddington, London W2.

FAQs

How do I know if I’m burnt out or just stressed?
Stress often feels like “too much.” Burnout can feel more like depletion, numbness, disconnection or a reduced capacity to care. Therapy can help you understand what is happening, even if you are not sure what to call it.

Can therapy help if I still have to keep working or caring for others?
Yes. Therapy does not require your life to be on pause. We can work with the realities of your responsibilities while helping you build more awareness, support and limits around them.

Is burnout only work-related?
No. Burnout can also come from caregiving, family pressure, chronic illness, relational strain, identity stress, or carrying too much emotionally for too long.

How long will therapy take?
That depends on what is driving the burnout and what support you need. Some people come for focused support around a difficult period; others want a deeper piece of work around long-standing patterns.

If you are exhausted from holding everything together, therapy can offer a place to stop bracing and begin listening to what you need.
