Answers to questions you might have about therapy

What happens in the first session?

In our first full session, we'll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you're hoping to work on, and any questions or concerns you might have. I'll also explain how therapy works, including practical details like confidentiality, frequency, and fees. This session is about getting to know each other and beginning to build a safe, trusting relationship. There's no pressure to share more than you're ready to—we'll move at a pace that feels right for you.

How do I know if we're a good fit?

The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful therapy, so it's essential that you feel comfortable with me. That's why I offer a free 15-minute consultation call—it's a chance for us to meet, for you to ask questions, and for both of us to get a sense of whether we feel like a good match. Trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, that's okay. Finding the right therapist is a personal process, and I want you to feel confident in your choice.

What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?

It's completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy. Many people come to therapy feeling unsure, and that's okay. The consultation call is a low-pressure way to explore whether therapy might be helpful for you. You don't have to have everything figured out before you start—part of the work is figuring things out together. If you're curious, I encourage you to reach out and see how it feels.

Can I switch between online and in-person sessions?

Yes, absolutely. Some clients prefer the flexibility of online sessions, while others find in-person sessions more grounding. You're welcome to switch between the two as your needs change. Especially if you experience chronic illness or chronic pain. We can discuss what works best for you at any point in our work together.

Do you offer reduced fees?

Yes, I hold a limited number of reduced-fee spaces for clients who are unable to afford my full fee of £80 per session. If you're interested in discussing a reduced fee, please mention this when you book your consultation call. I ask that you be honest about your financial situation, as these spaces are limited and I want to ensure they go to those who need them most.

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy varies from person to person. Some clients find that a few months of work is enough to address their immediate concerns, while others choose to engage in longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns and themes. We'll regularly review how the work is going and discuss what feels right for you. There's no pressure to commit to a specific timeframe—we'll take it one step at a time.

What is integrative transpersonal therapy?

Integrative transpersonal therapy is an approach that combines different therapeutic models (such as psychodynamic, humanistic, and attachment-based theories) with a recognition of the spiritual and existential dimensions of human experience. "Integrative" means I draw from a range of theories and techniques to create a flexible, responsive approach that's tailored to you. "Transpersonal" means I honour the parts of your experience that go beyond the personal—such as meaning, purpose, creativity, and connection to something larger than yourself. In practice, this means our work together will be holistic, honouring your mind, body, emotions, and spirit.

Is everything I say confidential?

Yes, everything you share in therapy is confidential. I am bound by the UKCP Code of Ethics, which means I will not share any information about you or our work together without your explicit consent. The only exceptions to this are if I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm. If any of these rare situations were to arise, I would discuss it with you first wherever possible.
